TEACHING YOUNG NEW ZEALANDERS TO DANCE SINCE 1987

Seond class with Royal Ballet and "Romeo and Juliet"

Today class at Royal Ballet was at 10 30 again, so after breakfast at Flat White ( a nz owned cafe) I made my way to theatre. Class today was a general class so included a lot more of the corps dancers but Alina was there again. :) She works so hard..she did every exercise in every group almost.  Although I do have to say I helped her with the grand batement exercise in centre which she hadnt been able to pick up..mainly because she was practising something else when the teacher was setting the exercise. It was a bit difficult to pick up exercises by the teacher ( he was a guest teacher and i cant remember his name) because he spoke so quietly but yet again I thoroughly enjoyed this class. There were a couple of aussie guys who I knew doing this class who are now in the company and the dancers were all generally really nice. From the two classes I have done here at Royal, I have noticed they do a lot of turns and jumps in class which I really like. :)

After class I went to the Capezio store and the Freed store and spent way too much money,  but now have 3 new leotards and 2 skirts :) Then on my way back to hotel I stopped off at a few stores and came back with a vintage travel poster of Madrid ( my next stop in the trip) and some more clothes. Oh dear I really don't know how I am going to get this all home :s

That night I saw Royal Ballet do "Romeo and Juliet" at the Royal Opera house and it was Tamara Rojo and Carlos Acosta!  Now when I went to buy these tickets back in October it was already sold out, but luckily through people in the company we managed to get tickets but they were restricted view up in the amphitheater. One ticket became available in the stalls so my friend bought that ticket and then I watched act 1 and 3 from up in amphitheater and then act 2 from the stalls.
Tamara is just stunning and those feet and legs are to die for! She portrays the Juliet character so well, as does Carlos as Romeo and their pas de deux's were so smooth and looked effortless. It was really interesting to see this quite traditional version of 'Romeo and Juliet' after doing the new Graeme Murphy version of 'Romeo and Juliet' with Australian Ballet at the end of last year, which is, i guess, a more modern interpretation of the story. There was lots of dancing for the corps in the Royal Ballet version and the Mercutio and Benvolio characeters were also very good and very comical and the Juliet's girlfriends had a dance in act 1 and 3.

Overall, it was an excellent show even if i was sitting so far and could on see two thirds of the stage. Im just glad that I got the chance to see Tamara and Carlos dance on the Royal Opera House stage.

Heidi, what a wonderful time you are having! It is bringing back so many memories for me. I saw Alina do Juliet and she was exquisite and I saw Tamara and Carlos do Swan Lake. Tamara's turns are AMAZING!!! I saw so many ballets at the ROH with restricted views but still so worth it! By the way, Heidi Martin's feet are also to die for!

If I had a nickel for everityme this has happened, I would have 10 cents. Relationships are very complicated in today's era. Romeo and Juliet found love so quickly and decided to get married in a matter of about 3 days. If my friend asked for advice in this situation, I would say to let the person go. If your parents do not like the person, there is probably some trouble following that person. Another thing that happens ALL THE TIME is that they think they are totally in love. What is love actually? Is it when 2 people who have known each other for a week decide to go out and suddenly they are madly in love. No no, love is a slow and delicate award that is acheived through compatability and common interest. Just because you meet this hot gir/boy and decide to go out does not mean your in love. You should love a person you have known for a long time, who has been with you through thick and thin, share common interests, show true compassion, and does not care about your looks. I found myself once in this situation. I dated this girl who did not look the prettiest (and everyone else thought so too.) We dated for about a month and we thought we were madly in love. Now I broke up with her because she applied pure pressure to me. She would always talk about when we would get married, when we have kids, how many we will have, what their names will be, and such. It was too much. So my advice for that friend, if they truly TRULY find a fair connecction between that person, they should try to tell their parents about the good in that person. If their parents just absolutly do not like that person, just be friends. Don't try to do the Back Street situation, because we all know how that ends
